Heart of Los Angeles – Youth Orchestra Los Angeles at Heart of Los Angeles
Bio:
The Heart of Los Angeles began in an old, dilapidated gym behind a church where the founder, Mitchel Moore, invited a handful of young men to play basketball. It soon became a safe space for the youth living in the Rampart District and over the years grew into the non-profit organization it is today. Their mission is to serve at-risk and underserved youth by offering free, exceptional after-school programs in the arts, academics, and athletics.
Program:
The Youth Orchestra Los Angeles at Heart of Los Angeles is a program that has partnered with the Los Angeles Philharmonic to bring orchestral music education to underserved youth in Los Angeles. Each year, they provide 300 elementary, middle school, and high school students instruments free-of-charge, intensive after-school orchestral instruction and academic tutoring.
